Generate personal experience of examples for the concepts below.

1. Classical conditioning (indicate the CS, US & CR) Example: My coworker has a candy bowl on her desk (and I really love candy). Every time I come into our building, I immediately crave candy. US = candy, UR = eat candy, CS = entering our building, CR = craving candy (the building didn’t use to make me crave candy, only after repeatedly being associated with seeing and eating candy).

2) Operant conditioning that has used negative reinforcement (explain why you feel this represents negative reinforcement). Remember that this occurs when one performs a behavior in order to escape or avoid something unpleasant

3) Shaping (explain how shaping took place)

For example: Teaching proper bathroom manners: at first, child is rewarded just for using the toilet instead of wetting pants, then expectations are raised. In order to get reward child has to use toilet and wipe properly. Then, once they’ve mastered wiping, they have to use toilet, wipe properly and flush. Then, in order to get rewarded they will need to use toilet, wipe, flush and wash hands. You don’t move to the next step until they master the earlier one but when you move to the next step, child only gets reward when the do the more challenging set of behaviors (old set is no longer enough).

5) Example of an ad that uses classical conditioning (describe in detail or provide image/link by writing “link” and then go to top of this wiki and click on the link icon)

6) Example of application of classical conditioning to health care (think psych treatment, changing health behaviors like substance abuse, overeating). This may be a bit harder than the rest- give it your best shot.
