- Using the concepts covered in this course, students will write three six-to seven-page (OF CONTENT- This does not include tile page, abstract, or reference page), double-spaced application papers as part of the assignments to meet the learning objectives of this course. Application papers will present a selected disorder and its etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Additionally, they will present the impact of psycho-neurological disorders on the individual, family, and community/society. Students are expected to combine their own thoughtful analysis with ideas and information found in a minimum of four other sources (this should be scholarly work such as journals not websites). Use of text and sources provided by instructor will not be included in the 4 sources.Therefore, as in any scholarly writing, students should not merely copy information from another author, but use evidence to support the contentions they have drawn from their findings and critically analyze related literature – this paper has to be an analytical paper, not a summary of readings. Application papers must meet APA 6 requirements of format and style. Students must cite the sources of all ideas, facts, and information used that are not their own, even if they have put the information into their own words. Failure to do so is plagiarism, even if the oversight is unintentional.Helpful Reminders:
- When integrating your analysis use “this writer” as opposed to I.
- Be mindful of conversational tone, i.e. writing as you speak.
- Always proof read.
- Utilize the APA 6th Edition templates.
- Be mindful that your analysis requires evidence to support your outcome views.
- Be mindful of the credibility of your sources (using journal articles from the online data base should be your primary tool).
- The DSM 5 manual must be used when speaking to diagnoses within the manual.
- Be mindful that failure to correctly cite in text sources may be construed as plagiarism.
- Less than 5% of your paper should be direct quotations.
- Be mindful of the APA 6th edition formatting specifically: page heading, subheadings, running header, number of words in an abstract, number of words in a quote before blocking, color and font style.
