POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO HELP REDUCE OR ELIMINATE ABORTION
In the previous literature review, I analyzed the social issue that is abortion. Abortion is a
procedure in which a pregnant woman willingly terminates a pregnancy. Based on the research
abortion was more rampant among the women population .Research also shows that over 40% of
all women will end a pregnancy by abortion at some time in their reproductive lives. Lows on
abortion vary between jurisdiction with some having less restriction on abortion and others
having laws that incriminate the procedure (Finer & Fine, 2013). The issue of abortion has been
politicized with many politicians talking about how they would formulate laws and policies that
will guide on the process. There are still no clear laws or policies that would be of benefit to both
the individuals who are completely against abortion and those who feel abortion should be
allowed living a lot of controversy and too much politics on the subject (Weeks, 2014). This
paper looks at two possible solutions to this social problem and analyses the feasibility of the
same so as to offer an alternative to the vice.
Guidance and counseling are the services of helping inexperienced individual find
solutions to their problems or helping them avoid a problem altogether. Professionals in specific
fields offer this service. With regard to abortion, professionals in the reproductive sector who
understands women physiology, reproduction and psychology should be allowed to talk to
inexperienced young girls. The subject of discussion should be sex, pregnancy, consequences of
pregnancy, abortion and its effects as well as ways in which a pregnant woman can be helped
raise a child without having to undergo an abortion. Two groups of people should be given
access to this service, the adolescent and the already pregnant women who feel they need to
abort (Angie Pratt, 2010). By educating young girls on abortion, we instill in them the power of
choice . Thus they can make an informed decision on sex and abortion. Research shows that
when people are taught about issues during their young age, they tend to honor it even unto POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO HELP REDUCE OR ELIMINATE ABORTION 3 adulthood. In doing so, it will help reduce cases of pregnancy among the young generation as
they will opt to wait until they are ready. The counselors should also give alternatives ways to
help prevent pregnancy such as the use of contraceptives; this will ensure that individuals who
cannot abstain are also protected. When cases of pregnancy among girls who are not ready for
the same reduces or is eliminated, there will be a reduction/ extinction in cases of abortion as
they are the primary clients of abortion.
With regard to pregnant girls who are not ready to carry the baby, they should also be
talked to and given options that they can take instead of abortion. There are many options out
there, besides abortion. There is always the option for adoptions (Weeks, 2014). Also, several
programs help new parents get on their feet. There are family planning agencies that now have
programs which help men recognize their equal responsibility in all aspects of sexuality. By
giving young pregnant women such information, we give them an alternative and this may help
solve the rising cases of abortion.
The society has placed a huge burden on women. They view women as the perfect
creature who are not allowed to make mistakes or get involved in certain activities. They
discriminate and even slander women who get pregnant before their time, parents sees pregnancy
as a shame to the family, churches rebuke pregnant girls accusing them of fornication, peers
laugh at and even scoff at their fellows who get pregnant, teachers discuss them during
assemblies thereby putting them to shame (Weeks, 2014). This mentality within our society
places women in a very bad situation especially when they get pregnant and because of fear of
shame or discrimination these women opt for abortion most of which are done illegally resulting
in death or complication. The society should, therefore, be educated on the matter of abortion
and that women are living beings who should be given the freedom to live their lives as they POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO HELP REDUCE OR ELIMINATE ABORTION 4 choose. Once the society becomes supportive of pregnant women and learn to accept them then
there will be a reduction in cases of abortion as most girls will want to keep their babies due to
the support they get from the society as well as their parents.
These solutions are very feasible. All the stakeholders must, therefore, work hand in hand
to ensure that they are accomplished. The government should come up with policies in the
education sector that allow for guidance and counseling of school children. Teachers, as well as
parents, should talk to their children on the matter of sexuality and guide them throughout their
young adolescence stage (Boonstra & Nash, 2014). The community should be educated to be
more supportive of the girl child and to give the girl the freedom to live as she deems right. This
can be done by pastors, the media, leaders as well as the government.
There should not be any conflict with these solutions. These solutions are very liberal and
cut across every individual both young and elderly (Shrage, 2013). They are neither supportive
of or against abortion thus can be accommodated by those who sees abortion as a sin or murder
as well as those who have a soft spot for abortion. Thus the solutions are satisfactory to both
parties.
The parties involved in the above solution are mainly the women, the community, and the
government. The women have a right to live their lives as they wish without any discrimination,
they also have an obligation to uphold this solution so that there may never be any conflict
between them and the societal values. The government has an obligation to formulate policies
that would help reduce abortion cases and the community has an obligation to help empower and
accept women as living beings prone to fall short at some point in their lives. POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO HELP REDUCE OR ELIMINATE ABORTION 5 There are no ethical dilemmas in this solution as they neither support abortion nor are
they against it but they are only trying to give women avenues to follow so as not to be caught up
with the option of choosing whether to abort or not (Vaughn, 2015). It gives an alternative to
abortion which is strictly knowledge based. POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO HELP REDUCE OR ELIMINATE ABORTION 6 References

More than four decades ago, the Ad Council partnered with Keep America Beautiful to create a
powerful visual image that dramatized how litter and other forms of pollution were
hurting the environment, and how every individual has the responsibility to help protect
it. The ad, which featured Native American actor Iron Eyes Cody, "The Crying Indian,"
first aired on Earth Day in 1971. Created by ad agency Marstellar, Inc., the campaign
used the line, "People Start Pollution. People can stop it." The ad became one of the
most memorable and successful campaigns in advertising history and was named one of
the top 100 advertising campaigns of the 20th Century by Ad Age Magazine.
