Utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint you must create a presentation that addresses all of the following:
- What is sociology?
- What is the sociological perspective?
- What is the sociological imagination?
- An overview of each of the major theoretical paradigms: structural functionalism, social conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism.
- What are the major methods that sociologists use to study the social world? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each method?
- How would you best describe the power of sociology? In other words, what are the major strengths of the sociological approach to understanding our social world?
- How could sociology be useful in understanding and/or improving the current U.S. education system?
Presentation Guidelines
- The text of your presentation must be well-written meaning it must utilize full sentences with proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Your presentation must be well organized.
- Your presentation must incorporate some multimedia (e.g. images, tables, videos, web links, etc.).
- Your presentation should conform to the basic guidelines of designing effective presentations (Links to an external site.).
- Your presentation should be thorough, fully covering each of the assigned topic areas.
- Your presentation should be in your own voice and should not simply mimic or repeat the course material verbatim.
- Your presentation should include a Works Cited slide at the end that lists all of the sources you utilized in building your presentation.
- Your presentation should, at a minimum, include a works cited slide that indicates where the information in your presentation was obtained.
- Your presentation should demonstrate that you have a firm grasp of the basics of sociological theory and methods.
- Your presentation should demonstrate that you understand the sociological approach to studying education.
