Ethical Marketing
Ethical marketing is about making marketing decisions that
are morally correct and just. Ethics are
the moral principles and values that govern the actions and decisions of an
individual or group. Ethical marketing
is a guideline on how to act rightly and justly when faced with moral dilemmas.
An example of unethical marketing would be making a claim about a product that
was false. For example with Philip’s gym ( if you come to Philip’s gym you are
guarantee to lose 50 pounds). This is an overstatement and is not true if there
is no dedication on the part of the customer. Marketers should be concerned
with loosing valued customers and law suites for false claims. When you cross
the ethical line you lose the trust of your valued customer and run the risk of
those customers leaving your company and using another like business. According
to Armstrong and Kotler (2015) ” In the long run, unethical marketing
harms customers and society as a whole. Further, it eventually damages a
company’s reputation and effectiveness, jeopardizing it’s very survival”
(p. 516).
