Contraindications of Exercise and Informed Consent

Read Chapter 3 in the course text prior to completing this discussion. Before setting up an exercise program for an individual, it is important that you complete a health history, explain the Informed Consent form, and assess contraindications of exercise of the client. These items should be completed by a qualified health care professional, such as you. As you learned in Week One, individuals within a high risk category with known disease should be seen by a physician prior to exercise.

For this discussion, assume you are working with an
individual who has a moderate risk of experiencing health-related problems
during exercise. Review the sample Informed Consent form and then complete the
following:

Explain the purpose of the Informed Consent form.

Expound on the contents included in an Informed Consent
form.

Define contraindication and assess what contraindications
exist for exercise by reviewing Box 3.5 in the course text and the
Contraindications for Physical Activity/Exercise article.
