Positive Psychology – spirituality
Juanita has come in for therapy
for a month now. She seems to have trouble staying away from using marijuana.
She feels guilty about quitting and restarting and puts herself down a lot. She
is afraid of losing her boyfriend if she quits smoking and is afraid that she
won’t find someone else. She doesn’t like her job, but feels she is much better
than the job she is at. Her mom was critical of her growing up and her dad was
not around. She did graduate from school, and was good in math and biology, but
did not go to college.
Explain the concepts of positive
psychology for her.
Examine the goals of positive
psychology and explain how this approach will help Juanita obtain sobriety,
focusing specifically on the concerns and dissatisfactions she has expressed.
Design at least two exercises
based on positive psychology for Juanita to work on in between counseling
sessions.
Explain spirituality to Juanita,
emphasizing the differences between spirituality and religion.
Examine how spirituality and
positive psychology can work together to help Juanita achieve her goals.
