Define the field of Psychology as you’d like it to be. That is, what should psychology study and how should it be studied (or practiced). Then write a summary statement of what the subject(s) of psychology should be and consequently, what its method(s) should be.
- In constructing your definition of psychology you must cite and reference at least five (5) sources not including David Hothersall, History of Psychology, although those citations and references may appear in Hothersall. (No general reference source, e.g. Wikipedia, can be used more than once. Use the APA Style for cover page, citations, and references.
- Assuming that you are familiar with the philosophers and physiologists who shaped psychology, the four major early schools of experimental psychology (Structuralism, Functionalism, Gestalt, and Behaviorism), and Psychoanalysis as discussed by Hothersall and will refer to them when and if it is appropriate and helpful to explain your definition of psychology. You aren’t limited to these views on psychology or required to discuss them at all, however, and please don’t give me a history of them in your paper.
- Include at least one specific, concrete example of the research or therapy methods you’re endorsing. You can devise it yourself or borrow it from any source you like.
- The summary should be at least 750 words (three pages, double-space) and include the citations. There should also be a separate cover page and a separate page with the complete list of references. In other words, five pages total.
