1. Leaders jobs are to create a vision, make it plain, and clear for others to interpret. A vision is a mental image of a possible and desirable future state of the organization (Bateman and Snell, 2013 p. 470). If the vision is difficult to be interpreted then it will be difficult for goals to be met. Most importantly, visions must be realistic and original in order for a business to gain a competitive edge.

Provide several examples of visions your organizational leaders have created.

2. One thing that is difficult for managers to manage is the ideas and problem solving skills their workers contain. Bateman and Snell (2013) noted that these people are referred to as knowledge workers and it is difficult to measure knowledge workers output. Knowledge management is such a vital aspect of an organizations success in today’s society. Knowledge management is the set of practices aimed at discovering and harnessing an organization’s intellectual resources, fully utilizing the intellects of the organization’s people (Bateman and Snell, 2013 p. 7).

How can organizations manage knowledge effectively and what are some tools managers can use to manage knowledge?

3. Depree’s model describes leadership as being able to build a relationship with members by acting as a steward that watches over and guide the health and welfare of the organization and its members (Weiskittel, 1999 p. 3). The Depree leadership model also focuses on having the ability to adapt to change and developing trust among team members. The Depree leadership model view leaders as having a dual role of serving the team members and the organization. This concept establishes a significant relationship with the team members, while accomplishing the objectives of the organization.

Describe some methods you can use to build relationships with team members within your organization and in this course?

4. In my opinion, good leaders challenge their employee’s intellect. Intellectual stimulation is challenging followers thought process by allowing them to think outside box and be creative in their thinking. This allows followers to think beyond the status quo in hope of developing new ideas and solutions to existing problems and up and coming problems. Leaders that challenge subordinates intellect allow subordinates to be innovative and take part in the decision-making process. According to Graham (1987) as cited by Bass (1990), “intellectual stimulation contributes to the independence and autonomy of subordinates and prevents “habituated followership,” characterized by the blind unquestioning trust and obedience that are seen in charismatic leader-follower relations” (p.216). In order to be successful, leaders of the future must focus on challenging subordinates minds versus using the traditional style of management, which involve leaders being the only decision makers and followers not taking part in the decision-making process.

5. Claims are often made by a person’s belief or emotion. Often the media controls what we believe or think, because we believe that profession conducts their due diligence before reporting a story. The media would rather play on words, than remain patient, to report an accurate story.

Do background information or knowledge of a subject an individual has acquired; dismiss claims that conflict with that knowledge?
