About the Assignment
This is a culminating assignment, in which you bring
together the new knowledge and insights
of Yosso’s cultural wealth model.
What You are Asked to Do
1. Review Tara Yosso’s article
2. Examine the document, Cultural Wealth-Hand out-Yosso.
3. View the video, located here:

4. Write up your analysis in a 12-14 paragraph paper.
a. Your analysis should be about 12-14 paragraphs,
double-spaced, 1-inch margin all
around, TimesRoman 12 font, follow APA and follow the
document naming procedures
(LastName_CultWealth_005). The components of the analysis
should include:
i. Introduction:
1. Introduce the topic. (1 paragraph).
2. Describe Yosso’s model. (2 paragraphs)
3. Introduce Sra. López. Who is she? Is she single, married,
divorced? How
many children does she have? What language(s) does she
speak? What is
the general topic of her narrative? (1 paragraph). View the
video as often
as necessary to get these responses correct.
ii. Description and Analysis (6 paragraphs)
1. More fully describe Sra. López narrative. Remember that
you are using
Yosso’s framework to organize your observations. (2
paragraphs)
2. Discuss the forms of capital you found in Sra. López’s
narrative. (3
paragraphs)
3. Analyze what your findings mean. What can Sra. López do
because of the
type of capital she and her family have? What does this mean
for the
future? Provide quotes from the video and readings to
support your
analysis. (1 paragraph).
iii. Discussion (3 paragraphs)
1. Propose how you would partner with Sra. López to support
your
students’ learning and/or on a project related to your major
(e.g.
History, Music, etc.). Discuss the specific types of capital
you
would tap and how you might integrate what you learned from
the
community fieldtrip into the school setting. (1 paragraph)
2. Discuss how will you use this model as a potential future
teacher to
understand your future students and their families. (1
paragraph)
3. Describe how you will integrate Latino cultural wealth in
your
future classroom. (1 paragraph)
iv. Reflections (1 paragraph)
1. Reflect on what you learned about your beliefs and
perspectives on
Latino/a immigrant populations by completing this
assignment. (1
paragraph)
v. Upload your paper to the assignment uploads site on
Blackboard. Please
remember to name your document using the format above.
