Freud calls the middle childhood period “Latency”, meaning a time of little change and dynamism. We know that only in terms of Freud’s psychosexual theory is this period latent. In every other domain of their development, children are on fire with new capabilities and learning. Pick ONE SPECIFIC area of learning, whether physical or cognitive/academic, in which children are consumed with new knowledge or abilities at this time. Describe how this process might look. What can parents/teachers/coaches do to encourage this excitement, exploration of new ideas and physical attainments?
