Humanistic Approaches to
Counseling
Applying Counseling Theories to
Group Work
Counseling theories influence the
decisions leaders make as they plan groups as well as the strategies they use
to facilitate throughout the group process. For example, a theory may influence
the goals the leader establishes for the group, whether the group is open or
closed, how the screening process is carried out, and the types of
interventions the leader uses with the group.
For this Discussion, identify and
explain the approach, underpinnings, and concepts of a counseling theory
described in the Learning Resources that most resonates with you. You may rely
on additional scholarly resources that better reflect the counseling theory you
select. Consider how you might apply this approach to group work.
Create a brief description of the
counseling theory that most resonates with you and explain why. Then, explain
how you might apply this theory to a group within your specialization (e.g.,
career counseling, addictions counseling, forensic counseling).
