Chapter 3 provides an outline for assessing peer- reviewed literature, but feel free to read ahead and answer the following questions about this article, in about 250 words each. In the files, one is Diijksterhuis article; another one is book, you can find the chapter 3 in book. Thank you.
1)In the Diijksterhuis article, what are the conceptual variables, and what are the operational definitions? How is the operational definition of “intuition” different than the one in your book?
2) What variables were measured (dependent) and what variables were manipulated (independent)?
3) There are four “validities” we will discuss in class. They’re also described in chapter 3. For this exercise, evaluate the following two:
a) Construct Validity – how well were the variables measured or manipulated? DO YOU THINK THE RESERACHERS TRULY MEASURED THE CONSTRUCT THEY WERE TRYING TO MEASURE? Why or why not?
b) External validity – how well do you think the findings in this sample would generalize to the general population?
4) Can you think of an alternate operational definition of “intuition”? How (generally) might you measure it?
