In Module 1, Hochschild (Reading 8) discussed the concept of “emotional alienation.” How widespread is emotional alienation in the various types of work you have read about in this module? The readings examine service work, professional and managerial work, and marginal and low-wage work, as well as the experience of being on welfare. Identify whether emotional alienation is present in each of these settings, and explain the causes where it occurs.
