The United States entered World
War II as a strong opponent of imperialism , even when it involved allies. Yet,
by 1950 , and certainly by 1954 the US supported French efforts to maintain
control of IndoChina.

2. Describe what international and
domestic factors caused the US to view Ho Chi Minh, the French and the world
differently.
